NATIONAL HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION DAY 2024
On Wednesday 4th September, we celebrated National Health & Physical Education (HPE) Day! Our students participated in a variety of outdoor games. We focused on working together and having fun whilst being active. Thank you to our sport leaders for assisting me in planning the activities for the day.
National HPE Day is a nationwide initiative that highlights the importance of HPE and its influence on the learning and development of children. Research shows that children’s participation in physical activity leads to better student engagement, improved academic achievement, encourages lifelong participation and better health outcomes in adult life! Whether you’re a parent, caregiver or teacher - everyone has a role to play in helping young people take a step towards leading healthier and happier lives!
I interviewed some of our students about what being active means to them and how they keep themselves active:
Lola – staying active makes me feel happy and energised. I love PE, it is my favourite subject because I love playing sports in particular basketball. I also stay active outside of school by playing basketball.
Kit – it feels fun to be moving your body. I stay active at recess and lunch by moving around playing soccer, netball and basketball. On the weekends I love being active playing soccer. Soccer is over now so I might start a summer sport like tennis.
Lila – I like running around and having a go on the trampoline to stay active at home. On the weekends I stay active by going to swimming lessons.
Cooper – I enjoy spending time outside with friend and family. I also enjoy playing soccer at recess and lunch time. At home I am quite active on my motorbike. I love riding down hills.
Lacie - I like playing netball because we get to play in teams. I also enjoy playing octopus because I love running around and being active.
Lucas – in PE today, we used the big parachute. I loved making the giant mushroom and when we put the bouncy balls on top of the parachute. It was so much fun.
Jinta – I love being active outside. My favourite thing to do in PE is when we run around playing games.
Patrick – in PE we used the big parachute. I liked running under the parachute. I love being active with my friends.
Kayden – I enjoy playing games with my friends outside running around.
Grace – I like when we play my favourite sport in PE and I enjoy playing games with my classmates.
Zac – I love playing soccer with my friends this term
