HOMES &HABITATS IN 2/3 JACOBSON

Title.jpg

This Term, 2-3 students have been exploring natural environments and investigating suitable habitats for a variety of different animals both locally and in other parts of the world. We have noticed that just like humans, animals live in an environment that provides them with all the things that they need to survive such as food, water, protection or shelter and oxygen.

As part of our investigations, we have focused on how people protect animals and their habitats in our Wildlife Park. We continue to deepen our understanding of maps and how to read them as we design our own national parks in our mapping area. We have used a combination of natural and man-made materials to create an environment in the nature area as well as planning, constructing and testing our own design in the construction area using recyclable materials. In our Maths area, students have been using tangrams puzzle to create a range of animals and record facts known and learnt facts related to the animal.

Our curiosity and love for the environment has lead us to the creative station where students have been experimenting with different collage techniques such as tearing, scrunching, cutting and layering paper to demonstrate their understanding of the living and non-living parts that make an environment a habitat.

This week, we have been discussing the meaning of words such as threatened, endangered and extinction. Once an extraordinary and unique species is lost forever it can have a massive impact on nature and people.
