SPSSA WINTER CARNIVAL

Yesterday all the southern schools across Tasmanian participated in the SPSSA Winter Carnival for 2021! There were 6 sports on offer: AFL, AFLW, hockey, netball, soccer and tennis! Year 5/6 students had to be nominated and attend trials for each sport. If successful at the trials they would make the team for their region and needed to attend training at other schools. There was a total of 14 schools in our region and we had 5 of our Molesworth students chosen to represent our region across 3 different sports. A very incredible achievement! Our students were:

Hockey Report

On Tuesday the 24th of August, I went to the Tasmanian Hockey Centre to play hockey. There were 5 games. Our first game was on turf 3. The scores were close! Red (my team) vs. Gold. The scores were 1 – 2. The second game was Red vs White. I played left half. It is the middle between the striking and defence position. The third game was our break. An hour of lunch! We were able to have a rest from the games. In our fourth game I played right back. This is my favourite position to play because I like to play defence, close to the goals. Our fifth game was the game we won! Red vs. Green. The final scores were 4 - NIL.

In the end our team came third. I made friends with the only other grade 5 in my team. I will definitely do it again!

Netball Report

On Tuesday the 24th of August, I went to Creek Road Netball Centre to play netball. My team played 5 matches throughout the day. We played the red robins, blue wrens, green parrots, pink rose finches and Huon channel hawks. The team I played in was called south gold finches. The other girls on my team were from New Norfolk Primary, Fairview Primary, Herdsmans Cove Primary, Oatlands District and Bothwell Primary.

I scored the first goal for south gold! I enjoyed playing with the people on my team from different teams. We came 5th overall.

Soccer Report

On Tuesday the 24th of August, Conor, Iestyn and I went to Wentworth Park in Howrah to suppose our roles in the Winter Carnival New Norfolk soccer team. We played three matches throughout the day and all three of us were in the mixed team (boys and girls).

In our first match we faced off against Taroona and ended up with a hard fought 0-0 draw.

The second match we played was a lot tougher and challenged our team to greater extents than the previous game. This game ended in a 12-0 loss for our team.

After this thrashing we came into the last game with high hopes for a first goal and potentially a first win. This game was probably our best of the day as we ended up not only winning the match but beating our opponents 5-0. (Hamish scored 4).
