KINDER/PREP ROCK'N'ROLLERS TERM 3
It has been a busy and productive Term 3 in Rock’n’Rollers (Kinder/Prep). For numeracy, we have been investigating measurement – the weight, length, and the speed of things. We enjoyed mapping out the shortest route from Caitlin’s house to the farm after reading Bob Graham’s book, Queenie the Bantam. We have also enjoyed our speed walking around the school – getting us to Music, PE, and dance in the fastest but safest way possible!
We have also been solidifying our number work – number identification, counting and recording collections. A fun book response to Room on the Broom was to recreate a broom stick using a given number of twigs.

Book week created a buzz of chatter around what makes a good read, and why we like to re-read certain books over and over again. We created our own Book Week shortlist – complete with specially designed stickers – nominating our own favourite book and describing why we enjoyed reading it. We also enjoyed reading the official shortlisted Book Week books. We were captivated with The Boy and the Elephant – especially watching it on Story Box with the musical accompaniment. We identified animals that brought us joy and happiness and created them by blowing ink and watercolour paints.

We have delighted seeing the onset of Spring. Children were especially excited to see native flowers in bloom on our recent MEC excursion to Possum’s Playground. Children had a wonderful day out in nature and enjoyed building habitats for native animals.

We have begun our Smiling Mind sessions. Children are very interested about how we can take care of our brains – just as we take care of our bodies through healthy eating and exercise. Some of the children’s responses about how they feel after a Smiling Mind session:
“It clears my brain. It gives me a strong brain. It makes my body feel good. I makes me ready to learn. It calms my body. It helps me concentrate. It keeps my brain healthy. It makes my brain less foggy.”
