50 DAYS OF SCHOOL - PREP-1 AND GRADE 1-2
Last week was an exciting day for students in Prep-One and Grade One-Two as they have officially made it to 50 days of School. Both classes have been incorporating a mathematical routine into their daily Numeracy Block which involves counting and tracking days spent at school for 2023 using different methods such as calendars, tally marks, number charts and base ten blocks to represent days.
To celebrate making it to the half of hundred days of school, students had a creative and collaborative session designing and building their own Lego creation using only fifty pieces of lego. Ms Munro and Miss Jacobson noticed many respectful conversations, sharing of ideas and reasonable negotiations throughout this part of the day. It was a lovely opportunity for students to work and learn together across class groups.
Students pondered the question “How far is 50 steps?” by predicting where they might end up in the school if they only took 50 steps. Students recorded their estimation using their mapping skills before venturing outside to test their theories. Strangely enough, when measuring 50 steps, some ended up in the office, hall and even the oval!
Stay tuned for our 100 Days Celebration in the future.
