This year our Grade 5/6 students are involved in the lantern building for the lantern parade.  We start the designing and building this Thursday and are very much looking forward to being a part of this Derwent Valley event.

It will be held on High street on the 23rd June between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm and is a chance for the community to celebrate a wintery evening with food, fire and music. High Street will be closed to traffic between Charles and Burnett street and the street will come alive with local businesses opening late, the lantern parade, fire performers and drummers, music, food trucks, children’s activities and music. It is planned that the event will be family-friendly and alcohol free. It is estimated that around 500 people will attend.

The parade – involving the lanterns, drummers, and fire performers is set to start at Lees Corner at 6:00 pm and will go up and down a section of High street, returning to Lees corner to display the lanterns.  We are asking any families of grade 5/6 students who are able to take their children to the event at 6:00 pm to be a part of the parade and celebrate the amazing lanterns.

All families are welcome to join in the event and celebrate with the community.
