RACT ROAD SAFE PROGRAM
To continue with our focus on bike and road safety, last Tuesday, Hayley from the RACT Road Safe Program came to visit us!
Each session had 4 learning modules including how to be a safe passenger, safe when riding a bike/scooter/skateboard and what road safety signs are telling us. One of the key messages from the program for pedestrians crossing the road:
- Stop (when you get to the intersection or road you are crossing)
- Look both ways (for oncoming traffic)
- Listen (for movement/cars/bikes)
- Think (is it safe to cross)
Classes watched short videos, participated in online games where we moved our characters depending on what dice we rolled and if we answered the road safe questions correctly.
All of our Grade 3 to 6 students received a login (username and password) so they can access resources at school, and if you have a device at home you are able to access the resources, videos and games at home. Feel free to explore the videos, activities and games as a family!
Our Prep to Grade 2 students participated in the ‘Yippee!’ program, which is the step before the Road Safe Program. Our students participated in some walking challenges using stop signs, zebra crossings, crossing guards, traffic lights, cars and pedestrians. The game tested their road safe knowledge! At the end of these sessions, Hayley read the Yippee! book and each student in Prep/1 and Grade 1/2 received the book to take home.
We would like to thank Hayley and the RACT team for coming out to Molesworth and sharing important key safety messages to our students, and of course the wonderful Yippee! picture books.
