MPS CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL
Our School Cross Country Carnival for our Prep to Year 6 students is coming up next Tuesday 28th May on the Molesworth Recreation Ground, starting from 11:00 am-12:30 pm with an official welcome by our Sport Leaders.
All students walked their cross-country course during PE time so they are experts on their course. On the day of the carnival you will see all our colourful cones out and about marking our tracks for our students. We will put witches hats out near the car park area (you will still be able to park on the other side of the witches hats) for the safety of our students and to section off the track through here, cars won’t be able to access the driveway down to the Recreation Ground Oval while our races are on as our upper students will need to use this area to run through. In case of emergency, Mrs Smith is officiating the driveway area so will be able stop competitors if an emergency vehicle needs to access the grounds.
The events schedule will start with our upper primary students in Year 6 first, followed by Year 5’s and so on with our last race being our Prep students. We will conclude our 2024 Molesworth Primary School Cross Country Carnival at 12:30 pm! From the results of our carnival, we will be selecting a school team to represent Molesworth at the SPSSA Divisional B Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday 5th June at Bayview Secondary College.
I am most looking forward to our students cheering on each other and pushing themselves to try their best. Cross Country is a great way for students to display a range of skills and attributes well beyond only their long-distance running abilities. Long distance running is a test of resilience, perseverance, grit and determination!
Students can apply goal setting skills and demonstrate positive self-talk, being brave and courageous in their efforts! All students will be encouraged to participate with the focus on participation out on the track, this might include, some running, jogging and walking. I have spoken to each class around goal setting – on the day some students’ goals might be just completing the track (we might see these students walking), and other students’ goals might be to make our school team (we will see these students running and jogging for a majority of their event).
Spectators from our school community are most welcome to come along to cheer and encourage our students. All students will need to remain with their coloured groups in the gazebo area to ensure we know where they are for their events.
On the day, students are encouraged to bring an item/s of clothing in their house colour to wear during their race. Class teachers can remind students of their house colour and let our new students know what house they are in.
Blue Gum, River Mint and Waratah! Below is the description of each colour and their special meaning for our school community:
