GRADE 3-4 MEC EXCURSION
On the 20/6/24 my class went on an excursion, to start the day we went to the MEC. Mrs Young told us about introduced and native plants and trees. Then we started our walk.
We walked up to Davey’s Place. On the way in one of the dams there was a platypus but the platypus was a scaredy-cat. It kept ducking its head under and then it finally came out and then it went back under, then we kept walking.
We stopped and sat down and Mrs Young gave us a bag with a set of secateurs so we set out looking for samples of native and introduced plants and trees.
After that we walked to Devil’s Den. On the way Mrs Young told us about how much bush fires can hurt the wildlife and the bush, but she also was talking about how bush fires can help the bush. Someone also mentioned that raptors pick up little bits of fire on sticks and drop them in different places to flush out all the mice. So we kept walking, on the way 3 of us fell over.
We kept walking then after a while we got to our destination (Devil’s Den). Mrs Young asked us if we wanted to have a play at Devil’s Den or go back for lunch but most of us said play so we stayed to have a little play.
After that Mrs Young got us to sit down on the wood She said we could get more samples then we walked back to the MEC. So we ate lunch then we went into the MEC and sorted our samples into introduced and native.
